Exactly what you would expect for a monument at the top of a hill! The path to the top is in good condition and makes a pleasant climb through the field. A member of National Trust staff was very friendly and helpful answering my questions. As I had made an unplanned visit I hadn't known about being able to get to the top of the monument via a spiral staircase inside one of the columns for a small fee so I didn't have any money with me, this is free for National Trust members. I will be going back to do this one weekend when the staff are there. This can be booked online or just turn up and pay on the day.
It's worth the walk to the top to see this magnificent structure and the 360 degree views. The walk to the top is not strenuous and it's dog friendly. On weekends and some bank holidays, you can pay five pounds to walk up to the top of one of the columns, if only I had worn appropriate footwear! Even on a cloudy day, the views are magic!

Great days shotting at lambton estate
If you look on Google Maps from space, you'll realise just how secluded this place really is, and how big it really is. I feel priveledged to say that my childhood was spent in and around this park, mainly General's Wood. The range of architecture and scenic views make it well worth a look, not to mention it's fantastic for mountain biking and cross running. it is massive, bigger than Newcastle city center.

Excellent park to visit if you want some fresh air and some exercise centred around a large lake with lots of wildlife. There is also a secluded part for wildlife to retreat to should the visitors disturb them too much which is a very positive feature. Regularly visit here though does seem to be permanently windy!
Really nice park for either walking, picnics or just a quick visit. You should bring yourself a packed lunch if you intend to spend any amount of time, as there is only one cafe within the grounds to grab something to eat/drink. The park has many areas to it.... children's play area, a lake, bird feeding areas, picnic areas and many more. I would recommend this park as a nice, relaxing, chill out place to visit. Excellent on a sunny day. Also has the benefit of having the penshaw monument just across the road
